The basic Udwarthanam ayurveda treatment involves the process of thoroughly warming the Ayurvedic herbal powder into the body to make the body responsive to the effects of the herbs when incorporated into the skin. A skilled therapist then applies the warmed powder using firm, upward strokes, moving against the natural direction of hair follicles to enhance blood flow and maximize penetration of the powder’s active ingredients into deeper skin layers. This massage is executed in 7 procedures so that each part of the human body can be oiled, and focused on the areas that are inclined to fat deposition. The process is concluded by a short break, in order the whole body to receive the entire impact of the herbs, then washing the skin and showering with warm water to wash off the remaining powder. The time range that the whole process takes can range from 45 minutes to 60 minutes depending on the person’s needs and health conditions.
